Various types of the text

As soon as by means of the tool Round (Text) has been created the text in program Photoshop, about ₍н automatically appears on an own layer. At any moment it is possible to change its attributes: a font, style, a size, color, kerning ¹, tracking ², line spacing, alignment, position concerning a basic line. Besides, various attributes can be installed for different letters in the same text layer (fig. 17.1).

Also is admitted to change the text content, to apply to it different effects of a layer, to change a mode of mixing and opacity level. What it is possible to make with an edited text layer? It is possible to apply filters, to contour the text or to fill with its gradient or a picture. To carry out these operations, it is necessary to transform a text layer to a raster format by means of menu command Layer> Rasterize> Round (the Layer> to Transform to a raster format> the Text). The text shown on fig. 17.2, at first has been transformed to a raster format, and then to it applied filters and effects of a layer.

Russian font

Text entering in Russian in Photoshop 7 is possible, but for this purpose it is necessary to have fonts TrueType or Round 1 which do not contain code pages, except ISO 8859-1 (a standard Latin) and СР 1251 (cyrillic Windows). For operation with fonts Round 1 in Windows 9x/ME/NT 4 it is necessary, that on the computer of the user Adobe Type Manager packet (ATM) has been installed, it is desirable for version 4 or above. Sets of fonts TrueType can be acquired in company "Арсеналъ" (www.ars.ru) or "Paragraph" (www.paragraph.ru). There are also the free dial-ups, for example allocated on the address http://www.bebits.com/ bob/8878/BSFontsCyrl3.zip. The wide choice of Cyrillic TrueType-fonts suffices is available on FTP firm Netscape Communications server ftp:/ /ftp.netscape.com. To apply fonts in тандарте UNICODE from regular delivery Windows it is impossible, instead of Russian letters will be displayed Greek or a Latin with diacritical signs.

The remark

The text created in mode Bitmap, Indexed Color and Multichannel, appears against, instead of on an image layer; such text cannot be edited.

But all not so is simple. As soon as the text will be transformed to a raster format, its typographical attributes (for example, a font or style) already it is impossible to change. Note that the text imported from the program of adobe Illustrator, automatically will be transformed to a raster format.

Any text types (edited, etc.) form by means of the tool Round (Text), the menu „Layer (Layers), palettes Character (Font), shown on fig. 17.3, palettes Paragraph (Paragraph) and panels of options (fig. 17.4).

Also by means of the tool Round in the active layer select a fragment of the text, which can be transformed to a layer mask (see chapter 14, section «layer Masks») to save in alpha channel or to save in the form of a figure layer (type shape) for the further usage (as it to make, it is told in chapter 16, "Figure" section).

The edited text (contrary to the text created as selection in the active layer) automatically appears in an own layer, and in further it it is possible to edit, move, transform, change its position concerning other layers, say, to fulfill over it various operations, without influencing other layers. Working with program Photoshop 7, it is not necessary to worry about where initially to place the text and what its attributes to select, as afterwards all is easy for changing it.
