Calibration
The first that it is necessary to make to provide correspondence of colors, - monitor calibration. In the course of this operation you set space of the RGB-colors displayed by your monitor, by means of the utility of adobe Gamma which is automatically installed together with program Photoshop and other applications of the company of adobe. Contrast and brightness, gamma, balance of color and a white point of the monitor will be thus modified.
Adobe Gamma utility creates ICC-npo-fil, used by program Photoshop as working RGB-space that allows to play back colors of images precisely.
The remark
To produce calibration of the monitor and to save characteristics in the form of IСС-профиля it is possible only once for all applications.
-
Give to the monitor of 30 minutes for heat-up that display of colors was stabilized, install constant lighting in a room.
-
Make color of a desktop gray.
-
System Windows 98/ME: select menu command Start> Settings> Control Panels (Start-up> Setting> the Control bar), then open a window of the utility of adobe Gamma.
-
System Windows NT/2000/XP: launch the utility of adobe Gamma.cpl from folder C:\Program Files\Common Files \adobe \Calibration or click on Adobe Gamma icon in folder Photoshop 7\Goodies\Calibration twice.
-
Select mode Step-by-Step (Wizard) (On steps (the Master)) (fig. 2.38) or include mode Control Panel (Control bar) simply to select characteristics from a window without any explanations. (If Adobe Gamma window opens immediately, you can pass this step.)
Council
Click by button Next (Further). At usage of mode Wizard (Master) this button allows to pass from one dialog box to another.
-
Leave the ICC-profile installed by default without changes or click by button Load to (Load) and select that profile which most precisely corresponds to your monitor (fig. 2.39).
-
Increase values of brightness and contrast; make value of contrast maximum and correct brightness that alternating gray squares on a top panel became as more as possible dark, but not black; at this time the lower panel should remain white.
-
From group Phosphors (Phosphor) select type of the monitor or specify variant Custom (For choice the user) and enter coordinates of chromaticity which have been defined by the vendor of your monitor.
-
The gray small square represents a half-tone operation mode of the monitor. Modify gamma, moving a slider so that color of a smaller monophonic small square corresponded to color of an exterior "striped" square. There is also one more method which, probably, seems to you more simple: remove flag View Single Gamma Only (to Display only gamma) and modify separately red, green and dark blue colors.
-
In the field Desired It (is desirable) select value accepted by default for your system (for system Windows it is value equally 2.2).

-
In the field Hardware (Equipment) specify a white point for the monitor which has been defined by the vendor of the monitor, or click by button Measure (Measurement) and follow instructions.
-
In the field Adjusted (Adjusted) select Same as Hardware (As well as equipment) or if know temperature at which the image will be visible, you can select value from the pop up menu or select variant Custom and enter temperature.
The remark
This option is accessible not to all monitors.
-
3акройте a window of adobe Gamma also save a profile in folder Windows\System\Color with.icm extension.
Program Photoshop can use this profile as working RGB-space in dialog box Color Settings (see further more in detail).
The remark
If to change values of brightness or contrast of the monitor or to change illuminance of a room, it is necessary to produce monitor calibration anew. Also remember that the described method is the elementary. Calibration at professional grade demands more exact measurement of characteristics of the monitor by means of expensive devices, for example the colorimeter and a spectrometer.
