Selection

When on the image there is a selected active area, it is possible to edit only it, the remaining part of the image is protected. Boundaries of the selected area represent the moved frame. In this chapter it is told about creation of the selected area by means of tools Rectangular Marquee (Square-topped area), Elliptical Marquee (Oval area), Lasso (Лассо), Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal лассо), Magic Wand (Magic wand) and Magnetic Lasso (Magnetic лассо), and also by means of commands Color Range (the Range of colors) and Extract to (Derive). Besides, you learn how to create the selected areas of different forms; how to select areas on color; how to remove selection, to select once again, to invert or delete the selected area; how to move or hide a selection box; how to change, add or delete points from the selected area, and also as виньетировать the image.

In any selected area contain пикселы that layer which is active at present. If by means of tool Move to (Move) to shift the selected area allocated against the image, the opened section will be automatically flooded by background color. On the other hand, if by means of the same tool to move the selected area allocated on a layer the opened area becomes transparent. (Is more detailed about layers read in chapter 7.)

The remark

Boundaries of the selected area can be transformed to a circuit that allows to control more precisely change of its form, and then is reverse in selection boundaries (Conversion of the selected area to a circuit »and« Conversion of a circuit to selection boundary »see chapter 16, sections«). Mode Quick Mask (the Fast mask), operating like selection, but allowing to draw on the image, it is considered in chapter 15.
