Tools of Dodge and Burn

For clarification пикселов in small areas manually use the tool of Dodge (Clarification); for shading - tool Burn (Shading). For each tool it is possible to set a type of a paintbrush and other options.

  1. Select a layer.

The remark

Tools of Dodge and Burn (Shading) cannot be applied (Clarification) to the image having mode Bitmap or Indexed Color.

  1. Select the tool of Dodge (Clarification) or Burn (Shading); to select them it is possible by means of "hot" keys About or Shift+O.
  2. On the panel of options (fig. 9.37) click on an arrow in the field Brush (Paintbrush), then on the falling out panel select type of a paintbrush with sharp or soft boundaries.

The remark

For creation of a smooth, light or dark line clarify or black out a circuit, selecting command Stroke Path (Obvodka of a circuit) and the tool of Dodge (Clarification) or Burn (Shading). More in detail about it it is told in chapter 16, section «Obvodka of a circuit».

Usage of a wide soft paintbrush gives more smooth passages of color.

From pop up menu Range (Range) select Shadows (Dark tone), Midtones (tone Averages) or Highlights (Light tone) to clarify or black out only пикселы, entering into the specified range.

Select value of parameter Exposure (Influence) from limits from 1 % (low intensity) to 100 % (high intensity). To begin with select small value (20-30 %) that the tool not too quickly clarified or blacked out areas.

  1. Put dashes on any area of a layer. Do a pause between dashes that the program had time to display changes on the screen (fig. 9.38, 9.39). For clarification or shading of the points allocated on a direct line, click under the image, move the cursor, then, pushing SHIFT key, click under the image once again.

The remark

If you too clarified or blacked out area, use command Edit an Undo (Editing and to Cancel) or palette History (History) for removal of appropriate operations. Do not try to correct defect by means of the tool with opposite possibilities - the image will be all in stains.
